How to Vacation - Pandemic Style (AKA Staycation)

With Coronavirus lasting wayyyyy longer than most of us expected, a lot of our summer trips are postponed or canceled. But, that doesn't mean you can't bring the vacation to you. This week, we've got six tips and trips for enjoying the perfect staycation, pandemic style.

Dine Like Your On Vacation

If you're on a first name basis with your go-to restaurant down the road, it's time to switch things up - at least for one night. Splurge on a fancy meal from Postmates, Uber Eats, Doordash, etc. with a cuisine you've been craving. Had to postpone that beach vacation? Order some crab legs or lobster. And, if it's a restaurant that doesn't normally deliver, chances are they do now - or you can plan a minimal contact pick-up. Dreaming of your favorite snacks from Germany? Yep, there's a shop for that. IGourmet features food from all over the world!

Change Your Scenery

If you haven't already, now's the time to rearrange some furniture! Switch things up by moving your bed by the window or reworking the living room. Or, try adding some unique decor to make your home feel more like that beautiful Costa Rican Airbnb. Or, for the plant lovers (or just the plant-curious), try purchasing some new greenery for your home. And what better way to enjoy the summer than by hanging out outdoors?! Get an outdoor rug, some (outdoor-friendly) pillows, and a projector if you're feel super fancy.

Have a Foreign Film Night

We are all for reruns of "The Office" but if you truly want to do a staycation, browse some other categories on Netflix. Perhaps even try a foreign film? It's a great way to learn about a new culture and live vicariously/yearn for your next international trip. Criterion Channel, Apple, Mubi, Fandor, and Amazon all have great options. And, Kanopy lets you rent movies for free with your library card!

Live Like Your at a Resort Spa

If you're anything like us, having a spa day - whether on vacation or not - is a nonnegotiable for self-care. There are a million ways to host your own spa day but when it's during a staycation, we recommend going all out. Turn that phone on silent, dim the lights, light the candles, etc. If a bath is part of your spa day, try getting a bath caddy tray to hold your book, wine, and candles. Post bath, slather as many lotions and creams as you can. Might we also suggest finishing (or starting, or both starting and finishing) your spa day with a solo session? Masturbation is an amazing way to reduce stress and make you feel relaxed AF.

Get a Good Night's Sleep

Ok, why do we always tend to sleep better when on vacation!? Whether it's the sun or the booze, vacation sleeps are the best sleeps. And with the money you're saving not going on vacation (or at least postponing) you can splurge on some high-quality sheets, pillows, and a mattress pad. Or, go all out and get a brand new mattress. Hey, sleep is important all the time, right?

Get Active

Yes a vacation is all about relaxation, but think about how much time you spend sight-seeing or exploring. Try going for an early morning or evening walk or try an online yoga class.

Just because our trips our postponed or canceled, doesn't mean we can't make the most of it! What's your favorite way to staycation? Let us know in the comments!
